The scream. The gunshot. It was like time was frozen. Mina’s eyes wandered quickly. Her heart beating on overdrive. She looked over at Gemma who was on the ground before her eyes met Jax’s stone cold glare. Putting her hand over her mouth, she walked over to the old woman laying on the ground. Breathing a sigh of relief when she saw her wincing in pain holding her shoulder before looking back up at Jax.
“You should go.” His tone, cold, unfamiliar towards her.
Mina stood slowly, walking towards him. “Jax. We should both go.”
He looked down at her pleading eyes before looking at his mother. “I need to finish this.”
“It’s done, baby. It stops here.” She put a hand on his cheek, lowering his head to look at her.
Looking down in her eyes he could no longer stop the tears but he shook his head. “This is who we are. This is how it has to end.”
Mina shook her head, cupping his face in her hands. “This isn’t who YOU are, Jax. This is who your mother is. Who she wanted you to be. If you kill your mother, you lose yourself. There’s no coming back from that.”
“This is who I am, Mina. This is what I was born into.” He argued, his facial expressions turning cold again, hard.
“NO!” She yelled, unable to contain her emotions. “You are the man that wanted all of this to change. Getting the club out of guns. Out of violence. And you are SO close. If you do this, everything you’ve worked for is lost. You are the man who’s going to come home with me to spend time with your kids. To help your ex wife find a good home for them. You are not THIS!” She pointed at his mother. “You are beyond this.”
Jax closed his eyes listening to her words. Everything made so much sense. Everything she said always made sense. How could he not have listened to her. He sank down to his knees, dropping the gun next to his side unable to hold himself any further. “You were right. You’ve always been right, babe. I’m so sorry for not listening to you.”
“Shh,” She shook her head, sinking down to her knees, wrapping her arms around his neck as his tears soaked through her shirt. “It’s okay baby.”
“It’s my mom. How could she do this to my family?” He dug his face into her neck, letting it all out.
“You’re family’s okay, Jackson. They all are. Your club, your kids, Tara. Lets get you back to them.” She spoke softly as she ran her fingers through his hair. Helping him up slowly, Mina wiped his tears. “Go. Head back to my house, I’ll meet you there.”
He nodded, looking over her shoulder once more at his mother struggling to breath on the ground before heading back inside to leave.
Picking up the gun on the floor she stopped to look down at Gemma tucking it into her waistband before walking over to her. “Wh– why?” the old woman asked, struggling to get words out.
“Because you deserve something worse than death. You deserve to live. Alone. Exiled from the ‘family’ you once cherished so much. Shunned. Him killing you would’ve destroyed him. It would have been doing you a favor.” She said calmly as she looked into the fading eyes of the woman who’d once been held to such a high regard before putting her hand over her gunshot wound, pressing her thumb into it making Gemma scream out in pain. “And so help me god, if you ever come back to Charming, I’ll finish this myself.”
Mina stood, looking down at the tear filled eyes of the former Queen before walking back inside. She checked on Wayne only to see that he’d passed. Closing his eyes, she took a moment to say a prayer before heading outside to her car, calling 911 to leave an anonymous tip of gunshots being heard from the address and speeding off down the street.
Jax arrived at the house, pulling his bike into the driveway he took a moment to light a cigarette. His family was fine. Sure bridges were burned for the club – but those were things he wanted to move away from anyway. Breathing in deeply, he took a puff, staring at the house. He owed this all to Mina. Mina Noelle Viera – no – Mina Noelle Teller. It had a better ring to it. Thoughts went through his head of how all of this would have went down if she wasn’t here. He wouldn’t have made it out alive.
Her car pulled in to a stop and she stepped out. Her face looked tired but he’d never found her more beautiful than he did at that moment. She’d given him her heart and soul. She’d given everything for HIS family. He grabbed her hand as she approached him and pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly against him. “Thank you.” He whispered into her hair, taking in her sweet scent as it relaxed his body.
“I’d do anything for you, Teller.” She said as she dug her face into his chest, her small arms wrapping around his waist.
Leaning his head over hers, he nodded. She’d gone above and beyond to prove that. He’d never had to ask her for anything. She’d just done it. He knew he loved her – but he never realized how much he appreciated her until today. Putting out his cigarette, he took her hand in his, walking inside wither her. Mina walked into the bathroom to clean up while he walked into the room the kids had been staying at to see Tara asleep with the kids by her side. He smiled at the view before leaning in kissing all three of their heads and heading back to Mina’s room to change. Throwing on a pair of sweatpants and a white t shirt, he came out to sit on the couch picking something to watch on tv. Mina came out shortly after in leggings and a t shirt handing him a beer as she curled into his side, laying her head on his shoulder. Holding her close against him, he took a pull from his beer and put on a movie.
Everything was going to be alright. For once in his life he actually believed it. Tara could live in their house until she found a place to work and a house for the kids hopefully close to them. Him and Mina could find their own place. The club was out of guns. They’d split the territories and Red Woody would be their focus. A legit business. A legit way of life. He was tired of being the villain. A monster. Holding Mina in his arms, he’d realized that she’d made all of this possible for him. She’d made it happen. He was going to marry her one day. Start a life he’d only dreamed of. It was all thanks to his guiding light.

This was brilliant. How many chapters left on this one?
Ashleigh – 23 was the last chapter to Under Her Wing. 🙂
This didn’t really seem like an ending.. It’s just kind of an awkward spot, like what happens with Tara and the kids or Mina & jax?
I know, i totally get what you mean. It felt kind of rushed. I thought the same thing when I had finished last January. I just wasn’t sure where else to go with it.
Maybe just like an epilogue type thing just to have some type of closure with the characters and not have everything kinda up in the air. It’s a great story, I was just a bit confused when I saw you decided to end it here!
I’m sad that this chapter is the end. I was kind of expecting a wedding and Mina getting pregnant.
