“Will you look at this phone bill? Who the hell has she been talking to this much?”
You chuckled, not turning away from the dishes but already picturing the exasperated look on his face.
“Isn’t it adorable?” You replied. “I remember when me and you would talk on the phone all night. Hell – we’ve never grown out of it since you’re always on the road.”
“Yeah – but you and I were dat -” He went to finish his sentence before he went silent.
Turning your head, you should see the wheels turning in his head as his gaze went from the paper to you.
Uh-oh.
You figured he knew but apparently he had no idea that his daughter was dating. She was still in middle school so it was harmless and adorable but she was Finn’s baby girl and he didn’t look anywhere ready for this.
‘She’s… she’s dating?!” He rose slowly from his seat. “You knew?! You allowed this?!”
“Finn – baby – “ You dried your hands, walking over to the kitchen table to calm him down. “It’s nothing. They do playdates – I hang out with his mother. He’s a real sweet kid.”
His brows scrunched in anger. “Y/D/N!” He yelled out, calling for her to come down to the kitchen.
“Finn.” I said shortly, the tone of my voice warning him not to get out of hand.
“Yes, daddy?” Our daughter skipped into the room, taking a juicebox out of the fridge.
“What’s this about you having a boyfriend?” He asked, right to the point.
Her face dropped and she suddenly became nervous, turning her head to look at you. Giving her a sympathetic look, you smiled and nodded your head for her to tell her father.
“His…” She started anxiously. “His name’s Ralphy. He’s in my class…”
“Ralphy, what kind of name is Ralphy anyway?!” Finn began, his accent getting thicker the angrier he got. “What kind of things do you do with this Ralphy?”
He was now pacing the room looking at her for answers.
She rubbed her arm as she shrugged her shoulders. “We hang out at recess. Mommy takes us to the mall or the movies. He holds my hand…”
“He touches you?!” Finn exploded, pacing faster as he shifted his eyes between me and her.
You crossed your arms, rolling your eyes at the over reaction and leaned against the counter watching him.
“That’s it. I’m calling uncle Carl! I’m calling uncle Luke! I’m calling the entirety of the Balor club and we’re gonna pay Ralphy a little visit! Teach him a lesson about laying his hands on my daughter!”
Y/D/N looked at you wide eyed, tears beginning to form and you offered her another smile.
“Finn.” You said again, this time he sensed the tone and calmed himself down a bit as you turned to your daughter. “Why don’t you go play outside lovebug. Mommy and daddy need to talk.”
She sucked in a breath, looking at him before walking out of the room with her juice box.
“She’s too young!” He yelled again, this time more so to himself than to you.
You smiled, crossing the room to place your hands on his cheeks, making him look at you. “She’s growing, baby. It’s what happens.” You said soothingly, running your hands down his arms to lace your fingers with his. “You and I have known each-other since we were her age. Look at us now.”
He sighed, nodding his head as he looked down at you. “It’s like yesterday I was holding her cradled in my arms. Now she’s dating…”
“I know, sweets.” You nodded, pressing a kiss on his shoulder.
“I … I just feel like I’m missing a huge part of her life.. Being on the road all the time.” He sighed, taking a seat again and pulling you into his lap.
“I know babe, but we’re always going to be your girls. You’re following your dreams and that makes us happy. Besides, once summer’s here we’ll be on the road with you again.”
He smiled, nodding his head as he rested it against you. “I can’t wait.”
